Autism Acceptance Month: How to Get Involved
April is Autism Acceptance Month, a time to embrace and accept differences in the autism community. At this time in 2026, 1 in 31 children in the US are autistic. You may know someone or have an autistic loved one. Here are some simple ways to get involved:
Interact with social media accounts that support the autism community. Autism Society, Special Olympics, and Work Together NC all have social media accounts you can follow and interact with. The more interaction you have with them, your followers are more likely to see their posts.
Donate. There are many wonderful organizations you can donate to that will provide services and/or resources to the autism community. Follow this link to donate to the Autism Society of NC.
Employ. Autistic individuals have difficulty finding jobs that fit their skillset. Consider employing an Autistic individual at your business.
Volunteer. There are many social recreation programs, camps, support groups, and special events you can volunteer your time with.
Shop. Many small businesses employ individuals with autism and disabilities such as A Special Blend, arcBARKS, and Chez Genèse that are in the Greensboro community.
Let’s continue making a better and inclusive society for our autistic friends and family to be successful.
